Why you should switch to gmail

November 29th, 2007 by wozog

Google’s head spam filter guy is saying that spammers are giving up. Hard data supports news that mass spammers are starting to give up on spam mail campaigns. Google filters are stopping high percentage of spams. Of course spam will always exist but we’re going to see less of it because inbox filters are being upgraded at a faster rate then spammers upgrading their software.

I use yahoo, hotmail, and gmail but i think i’ll spend more time with my gmail now.

Record company CEO admits that he’s a dinosaur

November 27th, 2007 by wozog

In a Wired interview, Universal Music CEO Doug Morris states that he doesn’t know anything about technology. The record company missed the massive MP3 market not out of spite but out of ignorance. His company didn’t have anyone who understood the change that was happening with the record industry. Upper management didn’t know how to respond to the new wave of technology. Talk about overpaid employees. I’m sure some of the interns could have helped if they had any power.

“There’s no one in the record industry that’s a technologist,” Morris explains. “That’s a misconception writers make all the time, that the record industry missed this. They didn’t. They just didn’t know what to do. It’s like if you were suddenly asked to operate on your dog to remove his kidney. What would you do?”
Personally, I would hire a vet. But to Morris, even that wasn’t an option. “We didn’t know who to hire,” he says, becoming more agitated. “I wouldn’t be able to recognize a good technology person — anyone with a good bullshit story would have gotten past me.”

korean blogs

November 25th, 2007 by wozog

Several of my friends have blogs set up on Korean websites. Empas, naver, and cyword are probably the most popular. In the states, the rankings of these blogs are pretty bad. Not really sure how people monetize blogs in South Korea but i bet that its easier to try to make money here in the states. Blogging on a free hosted site is always a bad move. It’s easy and you don’t have to deal with learning much, but if you have a site that people click to, then you are losing out on some money. Important to invest some time and a few dollars to host your own site cause you never know if your blog becomes a hit. Look at blogs like Engadget and Gizmodo. Perezhilton makes a million a year.

no more tv-links.co.uk

November 6th, 2007 by wozog

They shut down tv-links.co.uk down late october due to piracy. I have a question…why do sites like youtube make billions when a 26 brit gets arrested for just linking to sites that have the pirated videos? It just doesn’t seem fair to me. It sucks that big corporations can break the law and have lawyers to take care of them when the average joe gets arrested for the same thing. Actually he didn’t even host the content…he just linked to it. Does that mean any website owner that links to a youtube clip can get thrown in the slammer? Youtube has copyrighted material and if it didn’t its would be as popular as it is.
